Relay Stage 5
Stage 5 - Gillstown to Strokestown Park
5.27 miles (8.48 km)
This is the last stage. It starts on tarmacked road through the open landscape traversed on stage one but quickly turns off to meander through small picturesque back roads. A section in the middle crosses a rough grassy track, about two-thirds of a km long, called Nancy’s Pass which is an old right-of-way through the bog; it then turns back onto tarmacked roads. The last leg lies across the fields on a short farm track by a ruined abbey to the rear of Strokestown Park House to finish round the main avenue and back at the start again in front of the main house. Generally flat and undulating; if it is very wet weather the centre of Nancy’s Pass may get wet.
